Chris Brown Sentenced to 131 Days in Jail

Chris Brown appears in court for a hearing at the Criminal Courts in Los Angeles
Chris Brown was ordered to spend 131 days in Los Angeles County Jail by a Superior Court judge in California on Friday, after the Grammy-winning singer admitted to violating the terms of his probation that stemmed from his 2009 assault conviction
Judge James R. Brandlin formally sentenced Brown to a full year in jail, but gave him credit for time already served (including rehab), which reduced the maximum time he will spend behind bars for the violation to 131 days.
Brown was charged with a misdemeanor last fall when he and his bodyguard got into a brawl outside a W Hotel in Washington D.C. His trial over the fight has been delayed until June, but he now admits to violating the terms of his probation during the incident. The Grammy-winning musician was on probation for his 2009 felony conviction for assaulting then-girlfriend Rihanna.
Brown’s bodyguard, Christopher Hollosy, was convicted of misdemeanor assault for last year’s altercation in April, but is expected to appeal.
Brown has been in custody since March, when he was ejected from a court-ordered rehab program in Malibu, California. He was being treated there for bipolar disorder, post-traumatic stress disorder and past substance abuse.
On Friday, the judge ordered Brown to see a psychiatrist twice a week, complete community service upon his release, abstain from medical marijuana and complete his outstanding community service. He also extended Brown’s probation through January 23, 2015.
Despite Friday’s sentence, Brown’s lawyer Mark Geragos said the singer could get an early release and leave jail as soon as this weekend.
