Ghana, Cote I'Voire Name 23-Man Squads World Cup


West African Nations of Cote I'voire and Ghana have announced their 23-man squads for the upcoming 2014 World Cup holding in Brazil from 12 June to 13 July, 2014. Out of the 23 players Ghana's coach Appiah selected for Brazil, 16 debutants made the cut. Appiah also included some experienced legs like skipper Asamoah Gyan and Sulley Muntari who are going in for their third World Cups.

However, Jerry Akaminko of Eskisehirspor was dropped out of the squad on after his ankle was broken in their 1-0 defeat to Holland in an international friendly. He will be out for three months.

Ghana are in a tough Group G that also has Portugal, Germany and the USA. They play their first match against USA on the 17th at the Arena das Dunas.
Below is the final squad:
Goalkeepers: Stephen Adams (Aduana Stars), Fatau Dauda (Orlando Pirates), Adam Kwarasey (Stromsgodset).

Defenders: Harrison Afful (ES Tunis), John Boye (Rennes), Samuel Inkoom (Dnipro), Jonathan Mensah (Evian), Daniel Opare (Standard Liege), Rashid Sumaila (Mamelodi Sundowns).

Midfielders: Afriyie Acquah (Parma), Albert Adomah (Middlesbrough), Emmanuel Agyemang-Badu (Udinese), Kwadwo Asamoah (Juventus), Christian Atsu (Chelsea), Andre Ayew (Marseille), Michael Essien (Milan), Wakaso Mubarak (Rubin Kazan), Sulley Muntari (Milan), Mohammed Rabiu (Kuban Krasnodar).

Strikers: Jordan Ayew (Marseille), Kevin-Prince Boateng (Schalke), Asamoah Gyan (Al Ain), Abdul Majeed Waris (Valenciennes)
Dropped: Jeffrey Schlupp (Leicester City), David Accam (Hlesingborg), Jerry Akaminko (Eskisehirspor).

While Cote I'voire Coach Sabri Lamouchi dropped five players from his provisional squad of 28, Ghana's Coach Kwesi Appiah has only had to drop two players; Jeffrey Schlupp of Leicester City and Helsingborg’s David Accam from his provisional squad of 26.
There are no surprises in Cote I'voire's team list as all the big names made the team.
The likes of Kolo Toure and his sibling Yaya Toure, Didier Drogba, Salomon Kalou, Wilfried Bony and Gervinho are all included.

Lamouchi however dropped Lacina Traore of AS Monaco as well as forward Seydou Doumbie who pumped in 20 goals for CSKA Moscow in the just ended season. 
Ivory Coast is placed in Group ‘C’ with Colombia, Greece and Japan. They play their first game on 15th June against Japan at the Pernambuco Arena.

Goalkeepers: Boubacar Barry (Lokeren), Sylvain Gbohouo (Sewe Sport), Sayouba Mande (Stabaek).

Defenders: Jean-Daniel Akpa-Akpro (Toulouse), Serge Aurier (Toulouse), Souleyman Bamba (Trabzonspor), Arthur Boka (Stuttgart), Kolo Toure (Liverpool), Didier Zokora (Trabzonspor), Ousman Vieira (Caykur Rizespor).

Midfielders: Mathis Bolly (Fortuna Dusseldorf), Constant Djakpa (Eintracht Frankfurt), Ismael Diomande (Saint-Etienne), Max-Alain Gradel (Saint-Etienne), Cheick Tiote (Newcastle United), Yaya Toure (Manchester City), Geoffroy Serey Die (Basel), Didier Ya Konan (Hannover 96).

Forwards: Wilfried Bony (Swansea), Didier Drogba (Galatasaray), Gervinho (Roma), Salomon Kalou (Lille), Giovanni Sio (Basel).

Dropped: Benjamin Angoua (Valenciennes), Brice Dja Djedje (Marseille), Lacina Traore (AS Monaco), Badra Ali (ASEC Mimosas), Seydou Doumbie (CSKA Moscow) 


Nigeria's coach Stephen Keshi is expected to name the final team list of the Super Eagles before end of today
