Tragic: Marcin Kania drowned in the Mediterranean
A London city trader has drowned on a stag do holiday after he and his friends hired a yacht to sail around the Spanish island of Formentera.
'Rising star' Marcin Kania, 27, a foreign-exchange options trader for Citibank in Canary Wharf, drowned in the Mediterranean off the idyllic Cavall d'en Borras beach on the island near Ibiza in the Balearics.
He was swimming with with his companions while the boat was moored at around 4.10pm on Saturday.
When his friends returned to the yacht they realised he was missing.
Mr Kania's body was pulled from the sea by crew from a passing ship after it was discovered floating in the water around 700 metres from the shore.
Lifeguards used a defibrillator to try and revive him, while police ferried paramedics from the nearby port, La Savina to help him. He was pronounced dead at hospital a short time later.
Mr Marcin is believed to have been drinking and toxicology tests are being carried out to find out if he had taken any drugs.
His girlfriend, Sandra Sidlauskaite, 26, who works in HR for Saudi oil firm Aramco, paid tribute to Mr Kania, who moved to London from his native Poland.
